The aire is not entirely inspiring but we sleep well and get up to enjoy a huge market spread across many streets. We continue a circuit back through the old town then pack up to leave for the med.
It seems a crime not to explore the mountains around here some more but everyone is pretty tired and a bit over driving late into the day. We decide that we should get some distance under our belts rather than take the lovely but winding regional roads. The sat nav is a little misleading on our first attempt and we end up sitting at the toll booth that takes you under Mt Blanc and back to Switzerland. A few moments to decide what to do and we elect a slightly dodgy manouver to get the heck out of here. It involved driving the wrong way back to the turnoff. We make it work and before you know it we are driving three hours along a great road to Genova. It goes a little wrong when we get nervous about the cost of the road and get off the hgihway just before the city. It cost €24 to drive to the point we did and then about two hours to weave our way through the city and out onto the road along the coast.
We end up near Campoli in a village called San Rocco. There is a parking facility under trees and we elect to walk into the town to check things out after this random find. We don't go back to the vehicle for four hours. Meanwhile we grab a coffee then go exploring the walkway down the steep hillside of over 1000 steps. At the bottom people are swimming off a rocky outcrop. We give it a go and enjoy meeting a family who live right here in house a few meters from the shore.
It's late for the girls dinner so we don't stop and snack at the gorgeous cafe perched on the edge of the cliff... Actually built into the cliff... With incredible views of the setting sun.
