July 9: Paris Wednesday

There is a shuttle from the camp ground to the metro at Pont Malliot. We ride only as far as La Place de Concord. Our first stop is the Musee de l'orangerie. What a treat. After enjoying a feast for the eyes we walk through Jardin de Tullieries and on past the Louvre. We enjoy a coffee along the way.
After a walk along the Seine river bank we cross point neuf and onto the Isle de cite. We wander through a lovely square and past Saint Chapelle and the courts. There are police everywhere.
Around the corner are queues of people waiting to go inside the notre damn. We instead enjoy feeding the sparrows.... As you will see a highlight of the girls day.
We walk from here across past the Hotel d'ville reminiscing about ice skating here on new years eve 2002.
Walking froim here to the Centre Pompidou and past Stravinski's fountain the rain sets in. We grab a train to the Arc de triumph. As we come out under the monument we are just in time to catch the practice display of military fly over for bastille day celebrations. Pretty spectacular but it is now very wet.
We grab a snack on a bench under the monument then take the train toward the Eiffel Tower. It is pretty wet and miserable by now as we walk from Trocadero. The kids don't want to go up it by this stage in the day, so we walk back to find a train home. We meet a primary school teacher from Lyon and she guides us to the station, walking with us up the stairs and counting in french for the girls.
We put Kay, Malcom and the girls on a train home then we head to city. It is very cold and wet. We grab coffee and then eat dinner but decide against a cruise on the Seine due to climactic condutions.
We arive to our home station but it takes a while to find the shuttle to take us back to the camp ground. We are home very tired after a fabulous day. The persistant rain cannot take away the magic of this lovely city.
