June 12: Amsterdam

We packed and left our quiet oasis and went on to park in the park and ride off the city ring road. One euro for the days parking isn't bad. We took the tram into the city centre then decided to walk to the van Gogh museum. It's a scorcher of a day. Today is significant in the city as it is the first day of the herring season. We try some raw herring and it's not bad but we move on and stop for a coffee to observe the queues outside the location of Anne Frank's hiding place. Today would have been her 85th birthday. She started her diary this day 72 years ago. We couldn't face the queue so continued in the direction of the van Gogh museum.
The museum was awesome. In spite of being extremely tired we spent close to three hours here. Millie loved it and seemed to be transported by the amazing art works.
We stopped to play outside the museum then took a tram back to central station. Deciding that we had done enough today we decided against a canal trip through the city and instead drove out of Amsterdam heading south for Kaatshoeval where we planned for a kids special treat day tomorrow.
Once again Francine plays with any children who are nearby. We meet a family from Holland who have been visiting the area today.
