August 8: North to Omis

We swim for ages then grab a bite before finally leaving Slano at 3pm. In hindsight we may have been better advised to leave a little earlier. We drive into four campgrounds and find for the first time in our travels that they are fully booked. We are thankful to find a place at Omis.
The drive itself has been incredible. So beautiful, so spectacular and so varied. Lots of rocky mountains and strange landscapes full of rocky outcrops and vegetation at the same time. We see a few lakes, but mostly take in the gorgeous views of endless islands, villages by the sea, lovely beaches, all with nearby tall rocky mountains framing them.
Halfway along the trip we came across the incredible delta of the Neretvi River at Opuzen. The people have created endless canals along the flat basin area and as a result there is an amazing oasis with a tremendous variety of produce for sale along the way.
When we make it to Omis the girls swim before dinner and we try the open air movie on the beach for a little before heading for bed. We will come back to Omis on our cruise so hopefully get another chance to check out an amazing place. Home of pirates with fortresses built high up the mountains, river canyon systems, yet more amazing mountains and beaches.
