It's all over pretty fast in the morning. After breakfast we are all out of the boat saying our farewells and it's not quite nine in the morning. No tears but it has been a lovely week meeting lovely people and enjoying a pretty neat experience together. The forty four guests are dispersed by nine fifteen and we find ourselves back in the van reacquainting ourselveas with home. We go straight to the supermarket to stock up on supplies then we decide to proceed with our plan to head inland to Plitvice National Park for the night. We can't decide if we should go the most direct route - avoiding the coast, take the coastal route - which has been recommended or take the motorway - which should be pretty fast.
We opt for a bit of coastal travel followed by the motorway. The coastal route is surprisingly quiet and we wean ourselves from the Adriatic before heading to the motorway. What a shocker. We had forgotten that parts of Europe end their summer vaccation this weekend. Traffic on the moterway is slowed to a crawl and there are cars from every possible country in Europe inching their way home to start beck on Monday. We muck around a bit then decide to take another route. This is a longer than normal path but the traffic is much better and the countryside is really interesting as we cross mountain ranges and enter the hinterland.
We end up parking up near the national park at about six thirty after a huge day in the road. Maybe we steer clear of the roads a bit tomorrow and let those folk get back home.
