Armed with advice about where to visit we take a day trip to Liverpool. We have a little shopping to do as we prepare more for our travels to the continent but we enjoy starting off at Crosby Beach. Here there is a great installation of full sized cast iron figures spread over a two mile stretch who face out to sea. As the tides come and go they are submerged to varying levels.
It's particularly memorable for Tony who splits his new shorts completely from one side to the other as he clambers down from the shoulders of one figurine.
After redressing ... a newly discovered positive for the motorhome outing.... We head into the city to walk and look at things. The waterfront overlooking the Mersy is lovely. We take a quick peek at the maritime and slavery museums. We knew of the Beetles link and that Liverpool had a history of shipbuilding especially of Titanic proportions but were unaware of the significant role Liverpool had with the slave trade in years gone by. Horrid.
The waterfront area is lovely but Liverpool does look a bit more run down that other parts we have seen. There are weeds growing in a lot of buildings, even in the centre of town.
