May 5: Widecombe in the Moor

We wake amidst the field of buttercups and horses then make our way to the moors of Dartmoor. the first stop is the lovely village of Widecombe in the Moor. Picture perfect we stop for a Devonshire cream tea. A ewe takes her twin lambs for a trot through the town and we are enamoured with the village.

We head off from there following the crazy driver in his little car, but stop at the sign which indicates that vehicles over 2.8m should not pass any further as the old bridge is only that wide. We stop to consult the manual and discover that the vehicle is 3m. Time to bring out the string and measure both the bridge and the van. It's a tight squeeze but we take a chance... and make it through. Phew.

We stop a few times to look at the lovely Dartmoor foals and ponies. The girls love them. On to Badger's Holt for lunch and a stroll along the river. Just lovely.

Time to farewell our lovely friends and we head off again under our own steam. We drive out of the Moors, past Plymouth and out of Devon before setting up camp in a Caravan Club site just outside Looe, Cornwall.
